{"id":3114,"date":"2015-03-27T00:06:29","date_gmt":"2015-03-27T05:06:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/widbnetwork.org\/?p=3114"},"modified":"2015-03-27T18:01:58","modified_gmt":"2015-03-27T23:01:58","slug":"the-steam-tunnels-of-siu","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/widbnetwork.org\/?p=3114","title":{"rendered":"The Steam Tunnels Of SIU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By\u00a0Bob Piet<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Do they exist?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So back when I was a freshman, there were always rumors of these underground tunnels that connected the entire campus.\u00a0 Back in University housing, I recall a few Resident Assistants (RA\u2019s) outright denying their existence.\u00a0 If this was an official University Housing policy to deny their existence, I can&#8217;t be sure.<\/p>\n<p>The answer is, of course: they exist; the evidence is all over the place.\u00a0 Walking along the sidewalks, you see the 2&#215;4 vents, and if you look at them at the right angle, you can see right into the tunnel network.\u00a0 You have the random small brick buildings that when you look at them they go straight down, such as the one in Thompson Point and by Old Main adjacent to the main walkway over to East Campus.\u00a0 Additionally they do rupture from time to time making steam shoot out of the sidewalks or lawns like some alien planet.\u00a0\u00a0 My favorite though, is to wait for a day when there is just a light layer of snow on the ground.\u00a0 The ambient heat from the steam tunnels will melt the snow and give you and instant tunnel network map.\u00a0 Oh, and also they mention the tunnels on their website.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Why do they exist?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"The Steam Tunnels Of SIU\" href=\"https:\/\/widbnetwork.org\/the-steam-tunnels-of-siu\/\">READ THE ENTIRE STORY\u00a0HERE<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By\u00a0Bob Piet Do they exist?
